The Los Angeles Rams have given Matthew Stafford permission to talk to other NFL teams about a potential contract to gauge his value as they continue to negotiate a new contract with the 37-year-old quarterback and while it seems like the Rams would rather keep Stafford than trade him, they have at least cracked the door open to trade him.
And with that crack has emerged two front-runners to trade for Stafford: The Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan added that the speculation out of the NFL Combine is that the New York Giants’ “top priority” is to acquire Matthew Stafford.
As for the Raiders, Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Vincent Bonsignore reporting that Raiders minority owner Tom Brady has already reached out to Stafford’s people to express the team’s interest in him.
Both teams make sense as destinations for Stafford, though the results might not quite be what the teams expect.
