Man with 1.4kg tumour has life-changing surgery after ignoring lump for 20 years

Somai thought the lump on his throat was a swollen thyroid gland at first and ignored it for 20 years.

After finally deciding to seek help, the 55-year-old visited doctors who scanned him to reveal it was in fact a sub-mandibular tumour.

Surgeons spent almost four hours painstakingly cutting out the tumour from his throat.

The farmer from Basti in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh will be discharged from the hospital in the coming days.

Bloke begs for help to remove GIANT tumour

Dr Onkar Vedak, who was part of the surgical team at King George’s Medical University Hospital at Lucknow, said: “The patient visited our out patients’ department on July 12, and we admitted him.

“After going through the scan reports, we decided to remove the growth at the earliest, and the surgery was conducted the next day on July 13.

“It was sub-mandibular tumour and was pressing hard on the carotid arteries which are major blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain, neck and face.”

Medics said they’ve never seen a tumour as big as Somai’s before.
